We have some comments from Marshall3943. I guess he shoots 82 a lot. Anyway, Marshall says, “My major problem seems to be swing speed. I was shocked to learn that 81 mph was the average swing speed with my driver and in the 70’s with the shorter clubs. Yes, I am 67 years old but I stretch and exercise every day. I have played rounds with men older that I am who must have faster swing speeds judging by the distances they were hitting various clubs.
“For the most part I am accurate with my shots but my slower swing speed robs me of distance and keeps me from getting to some par 4 greens in regulation. What can I do to improve my swing speed?”
Alright, Marshall, I think the first thing we need to look at here is your basic concern, swing speed.
So, what can we do to increase swing speed? I’ve said it many times and I’m going to say it again that as we get older, even in today’s world where senior golfers and people getting ready to retire, we’re getting in better shape. We’re getting stronger, we’re getting more supple, we’re getting more flexible, because we want to stay active in our retirement years, to really enjoy life. What we lose is, even doing all of these things, we lose the ability of speed. Our muscles don’t move as fast.
What are other possibilities that could be a problem? Let’s say you’re trying to hit the ball harder, you’re trying to swing faster. Well, if you’re getting to a point where you’re squeezing your hands too tight and/or tightening up your muscles too much, that slows you down. Tight muscles move slower.
What about if you’re getting too hung up on mechanics, trying to connect the dots in the swing to be absolutely, perfectly precise in your swing? That mental activity in trying to connect dots, you can’t swing fast doing that.
That’s why we have the philosophy of doing what? Making good practice swings. Making good practice swings you feel the practice swing, then you step up and swing the feel. No mechanics. Just feel what you want to do, then swing that feel. That keeps you freer, both mentally and physically.
Another thing you might want to look at is to have your clubs checked to see if they are the right fit for you. Are they the right length and lie? Most importantly, are they the right swing flex for you. Because if they’re too stiff or too weak, then the shafts aren’t working correctly for the speed you’re swinging. So you might want to check with a club fitter and get that checked out.
All these things factor in. The keys are there. Get your clubs checked, know that they’re correct. Then start checking out what the issues could be with you.
Remember, I think the #1 thing could be is just think about the Peak Performance Golf Swing, limited turn, 3/4 swing. The whole thing requires our body to swing our arms faster. If you swing your arms faster you’ll swing your club faster. These points we covered should really give you some thoughts and some things to check out and I think you’ll really improve and get some distance for you, some clubhead speed.
Have a great 4th of July!

Hey Surge, you consistantly recommend that folks get their clubs fitted by a professional club fitter. I believe that's excellent advice but there's a big problem. A lot of us don't live anywhere near a club fitter. So we (I) play with what I've got.
How do I stop “swaying”? It seems to happen inevitably when I try to shift my weight back on backswing and forward on downswing
I HIT A LOT OF FADES, WHAT CAN CAUSE THAT?
My problem is also club speed. I have to work very hard to slow my swing down. When I consciously or unconsciously subscribe to the “Big strong guy club h–l out of ball”, I have bad drives and other shots. This leads to topping, hooks, slices and/or short drives. When I get in the correct mind set and club speed, I average 270-280 on my drives, hit good 2nd shots, etc. How do you train yourself to have the proper club speed?
My problem is the same as Marshall-club head speed. I am 79, which most people will not believe, and usually think I am in the mid 60's. I work out miinimum 3 times a week; aerobics and stretching every day etc, etc, etc. I believe (because I have done it) that I am capable of hitting a drive at least 250 yards (I have an 81 year old cousing that hits a 3 wood 270) because I have done it. I am more flexable than most my age and believe the problem is not age but not executing the swing properly. Although I have had your video's for some time I am only recently gettinbg into the PPGS due to back problems and piriformis muscle problems. Although I have looked at the videos over and over and read the PPGS manual I am not 100 % convinced that ou can produce the same swing speed at impact with a limited turn 3/4 swing because except for your son I do not see any of the professionals swing like that. However I am dedicated to making this work because it is obviously easier on the back. My probglem is I can not seem to start the swing with the bump to the left which I believe limits my distance. I can get the left moving with a chip shot but not with the full swing. Is there a drill (and I have not found one) that I cando over andover and over to get me to do this.
At present with the PPGS I make good contact although I may slice, hit it straight, draw or hook but what I never get, especially with the driver, is distance. I also hit it very high with a 10 1/2 degree which I never did. I feel that my club head is getting to the ball before my hands therby opening the face and giving me more loft. I do not care what swing you have you can not get distance swinging with just arms and hands. I need to get the left side moving. HELP!

If you employ Don's wide knees approach at address and make a concerted effort to resist letting the left knee point behind the ball on the backswing (assuming you are a righty), as well as keep your left heel on the ground, this should go a long way in reducing the tendency to sway.
This is my second year playing golf. I played softball most of my life, 20 years before retiring because it simply was not worth the three days of pain following play. I can drive the ball a mile with a nasty slice! I mean NASTY, comparable to a boomerang! I wonder how far it would go straight?! I bet this is covered in a future video…
DOES THE VISUAL SWING THOUGHT OF HITTING THE GOLF BALL WITH THE BUTT END OF THE GOLF CLUB HAVE ANY PLACE IN THE PPGS?? THANKS, DEMPAYNE
HI SERGE: HAVING A DEVIL OF A TIME BEING CONSISTANT HITTING GREENS WITH MY IRONE…..SOME ARE LEFT AND SOME ARE RIGHT….DISTANCE IS OK BUT MY TOWARDNESS LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED…..MIKE
Hey D.J., how do you like the PPGS nowwwwwwwwwwwww. Cut, no surprise. Thing is, he can't “cut” it. 5 out of 16. Way to go “pro”.
Hey Serge- Was an administrator at Hilton Head Elem when DJ was at Hilton Head High. Follow him religiously. I have been on your system since April and am down to a 6. You are absolutely right about your swing. Feel like I'll be a 2 or 3 by the end of summer as soon as I improve my putting. Would like to get certified as I love to teach. What do I need to do?
Why would someone try to disparage another person like that? Are you just angry or not brought up to respect other human beings? Have you ever even met D.J. Maybe he did something to you at some point. My guess is that you haven't ever really accomplished anything and you try to make yourself feel big by disparaging someone else. I never met an accomplished person who would act like that. For certain you aren't much of an athlete or you would have some clue how big an accomplishment it is just to be playing at the professional level.
Don,
Question: I watch the video on alignment. You mention about lining up left. I would have like to see the position of the ball from the side.
Hey TeePee, How do you like being such an assholeeeeeeeeee. Were you always such a big dick, or did it take years to achieve. It seems to come so natural to you. I'll bet your kids want to grow up to be an asshole just like you, you should be real proud! What a fine example you are!
90% of the time I hear students complain about a lack of distance it is their swing not the clubs. If you get fitted for a slower swing speed you'll be doomed for life to swing slower to match your new clubs. Any effort to swing faster will result in an open clubface and a slice. Having said that I'll bet the clubhead is beating your hands to the ball. Again, this is the problem in 90% of the students I teach who lack distance. Once your clubhead gets ahead of your hands it will rapidly decelerate. Try to lean that clubshaft a little more forward at impact – I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Hello Paul,
I wonder if you aren't under the misconception that the PPGS uses a limited swing. It does not! It uses a full swing with a limited shoulder turn. We strive to make a limited turn where the forward arm only comes over the toe line. We then lift our arms straight up to the top of the backswing. The further we lift our arms, the faster the clubhead will move in the forward swing. The higher we can lift the club, the more time it has to accelerate to the ball.
As far as the bump is concerned, if you concentrate on starting the forward swing with the hands and arms and NOT the shoulders, then the bump will happen automatically and you will eliminate your slice.
When the forward swing begins with a forward turn of the shoulders, it is much like swinging an axe at a tree. It feels very strong, but speed cannot be generated, and the hands extend out in front of your body too early causing an outside to inside clubhead path. This imparts a spin on the ball and it slices.
Instead of swinging an axe, think about swinging a weed chopper. Let your hands and arms lead the shoulders in the forward swing. The club will approach the ball in an inside to outside direction. As the clubhead approaches the ball, the arc will bring the face into contact on a straight line into and through the ball. Now, stand up as quickly as possible and you will feel tremendous acceleration and transfer of energy in your swing and you will hear a whooshing sound. WHOOSH EQUALS SPEED! You will begin to hit nice straight shots, or draws. The more stable you hold your legs during the backswing and the shoulders during teh forward swing, then the faster you can swing the club.
Paul L wrote, “…I cannot seem to start the swing with the bump to the left which I believe limits my distance…is there a drill…”
Drill: imagine a bug under your left heel – squash the bug to start your downswing, at the same time you should feel your left shoulder go straight up, and your left hip will bump out. Do this without a club to start with, so you can focus completely on it. Your goal is to train yourself to do this without thinking about it. Hope this helps.
I am 60 and retired, from Corp to my own business about 5 years ago. Although I seem to work harder I can t take off anytime I want and therefore I don't exercise as much as I used to. I notice that I am getting weaker and joints are getting tighter as each day goes on.
I heard you say that you stretch and exercise everyday. Can you suggest a series of stretches and exercises? Is there someone out there that you might suggest as a mentor on this subject with a book or DVD’s?

Hey Bob!! Believe it or not, J. Lynn Griffin has an online type of fitting that I believe can really get you close to an “in shop” fitting. Is it as precise? Probably not. But when you live out in the “boonies” or just a long ways from one of the major golf areas it could be a real blessing. Give him a try, email him, talk to him and see if it will work for you. His email address is…… thegolfstop@att.net
The Physical is……. The Golf Stop 1600 Garner Lane, Columbia,SC 29210
What a prick. Problem with guys like you is you do this on a blog because you don't have the cajones to talk to a man face to face. You are probably a 16 year old pimply faced little shit with visions of grandure. Well you aren't grand, far from it. Why don't you just go away and fall into a very deep hole somewhere??? Better yet tell us your address and we (some of us who can't stand your type of bull) will come dig it for you!!!
Thank you Paul, I will check into it after the holiday.
Marshall needs to build himself a heavy club for practice swings. He needs to put a lot of lead down the shaft and then swing it 50 to 100 times every day. That will loosen him up, build strength in his golfing muscles and force him to delay arm movement because of the extra weight. He can add weight as he gets stronger.
He may have to go to stiffer shafts if he keeps this up.
He could also do practice swings with his feet together. That requires proper body movement or he will tip over.
Bob Pegram
A sad commentary indeed. D.J. is human and as one of us has occasional issues that get in the way of performing at the level he wants to achieve. Even Hogan was desperate at one time being unable to play any hole that called for a straight tee shot and/or a cut shot. Don's system conforms nicely with the laws of physics and the simplicity is that you do not have to understand every thing printed in the “Golf Machine” to be able to hit the ball at the best of your ability. So instead of flaming D.J., show a little humanity and reflect on how life brings challenges to each of us to overcome and move on with your life.
Great point about having the shaft lean towards the target at impact. I too see way too many players that stop the hands early in a misguided attempt to create distance. I played yesterday with a tremendous ball striker that hit it very long with out having a lot of “speed” through the ball. He had classic PPGS limited swing aimed parallel to the target. Not as vertical as the Surge would like, even so he hit the ball as solid as any Tour star would hope to. Leaning the clubshaft is critical, but don't forget that a solid hit compressing the ball down the target line is key to creating the most distance one can achieve.
The actual tendency for a weak shaft is to come through and shut the club face down and hit hooks. Too strong a shaft and the tendency is for the face to be open.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for your thoughts on the vexed issue of clubhead speed and your suggestions as to how we might improve in this aspect of our swing.
I do, however, have some difficulty with your suggestion that: “the further we lift our arms, the faster the clubhead will move in the forward swing. The higher we can lift the club, the more time it has to accelerate to the ball”.
In the PPGS – as I understand it – on the backswing, we only lift the arms up to the point when the upper portion of the forward arm (left arm for right handers) touches our chin. The backswing ends at that point. If we continue to lift the arms any higher, the head lifts up, and that gives rise to other problems.
At the point where my left upper arm touches my chin, my left arm is just a little above parallel to the ground, and my hands are about level with my face. That is as high as I can lift my arms without forcing my head to lift.
If you have a look at the DVD of Don hitting every club in the bag, you will notice that, with every club – from sandwedge to driver – his left arm does not rise any higher than parallel to the ground (when the swing is viewed from front-on).
Thanks for your imput.
Cheers
Hello Michael,
If you take a look at DJ's swing, you will see that he lifts his arms well past the point where the left arm is above parallel. The clubhead has more time to accelerate as it falls in the forward swing. This means that the clubhead is going to travel much faster than if it were only lifted to the point where the arms were only parallel to the ground.
Don and DJ have swings which are so similar, that to the untrained eye, they appear almost identical. However, DJ hits the ball much farther than Don can.
Take a look at this article written by Lynn Griffin which lays out several myths about the PPGS. It should help to clear up what I was explaining to Paul.

TeePee, way to go!! Very astute observation on your part. You actually managed to disparage a young man, D.J. and 'get a rise' out of the rest of us that are cheering for him. You troll these sites looking for the opportunity to 'pounce' on some absurdity and receive a bunch of rebuttals to your stupidity.
I applaud you for your ignorance. Now, go away.
Hi Robert,
I didn't mention DJ's swing and his higher arm lift, as he is, no doubt, in a different league to most of the users of the PPGS. DJ has to crank it up in order to stay competetive on tour, and he has the flexibility to take a bigger backswing, whilst staying within the parameters of the PPGS.
I have no argument with your assertion that a higher arm lift gives the clubhead more time to generate speed on the forward swing. That is a given. Having followed these blogs for almost a year, I believe that it is also a given that most of the people using the PPGS are getting on in years and/or are debilitated in some way. Consequently, most of us would derive greater benefits from the PPGS if we follow Don's advice, rather than trying to emulate DJ's swing. Don's advice is that the backswing arm lift is completed when the upper part of the forward arm hits the chin. Any action beyond that point is considered to be over-swinging.
Thanks for the link and for your interest. I have read and learned from all of Lynn' excellent articles.
Cheers.
from 6 upto 10. knee replacement . back problems !! PPGS just a couple of weeks NO Pain !!!!! handicap down to 8 and will be seven by the next posting . Easy method very little that can go wrong , once PPGS is understood . Of course I still have to chip and Putt . Ah Practice Practice
Mary,
I don't know what all you have done to try to correct the slice so I'll just tell you some general things to look for.
1. Make sure you are lined up correctly. Most slicers tend to aim farther and farther left to try to hit the fairway. This actually promotes a slice.
2. Let the club start down into the ball from the inside (where it is at the top of the swing) smoothly toward the ball. If you try to hit the ball to hard from the top of the swing you will probably come over the top which also promotes a slice.
3.When you take your practice swings watch closely the path the club is traveling at the point where it would strike the ball (still should be traveling either from inside out or at least straight down the target line at this point). I also look at the direction the clubface is pointing at the point of impact. Should be either square to the target line or a little closed (pointing a little left of target).
If you are lined up properly and the clubface is coming into the ball square or closed it should illiminate slices. Most of us ex-baseball and ex-softball players have to remember that there is no big hurry in golf to get the club started fast. You want your speed to build gradually to the point of impact.
you are 100% correct, bet he has a hard time getting a foursome, but there is always is a few around.
Hi Michael
I have subscribed to the videos, manual etc. Where will I find footage of Don 'hitting every club in the bag' ?
I have developed a slice with my driver and it is causing me much grief, so I need to study the footage carefully!
I am not getting as good scores as I did before I switched to PPGS YET but will persevere because it makes sense to me AND my back is much better.

Hi Bob, Your comment is very true. I use a Monentus Swing Trainer weighted 5 iron. The most helpful golf tool that i have ever used. I would not not be without it. thanks, Charles
Hal,
I have been a massage therapist for 10 years and have found that there are two easy ways to learn some great strething methods. One, attend a beginner yoga class. Even if you only attended a few sessions you would pick lots of stretches for over-all flexability. Also, stop by your local book store such as Borders or Barns and Nobles. you'll find many books that include pictures with a variety of stretches. If you don't already go, join a gym and get some instuction for excersise. Basic instruction is often free for new members.(Sometimes the same fitness center offers free classes too such as yoga.)
Remember as with all stretching and excersise, START SLOW and don't over do it escpecially in the beginning sessions. More important than the amount is the consistency. Personally, I work out and stretch 5 days a week. I'm only in the gym for about an hour normally but along with a great over-all diet and vitimins I can honestly say I don't get sick and have'nt missed a day of work in years.
Anyhow I feel great and the closer you can follow the above suggestions the sooner you'll feel the difference.
I normally don't share this much about my personal lifestyle but hope it helps.
Down the middle,
Robert
PS. Get a massage
how much money have you made so far this year? DJ has made well over a million. Bet your around 12 grand right now judging by your incredibly stupid comments. As my mom always would say stupid is as stupid does…/ and says!
Thanks Robert, Great explaination and your visual way of saying things is clear.
Good work brother.
Robert M.
good points but might i also add the importants of having the hands in the right position at top. I played with one recently that would take the club back nicely but as he approached the top of his swing wound cup his hands backwards right at the end not realizing he was doing it. that position lend towards a casting effect and an outside in swing whick was creating a wicked slice. so i would say also pay attention to how yuor hands set in your practice swings.
Goggle; “Ball flight laws for golf”. There you'll find the 9 ball flight and -whys.
Very good point. In fact I had been in a slump all year depending on my short game to carry me. Couldn't figure out what was wrong until two weeks ago but it “was” hand and wrist position at the top. Now I have my game back, in fact better than ever because my short game improved so much (out of necessity).
Teepee Bobby Jones is God and he will get you! Don't mess with the golf gods. My question is irons have different lie angles and can be adjusted if they are forged, but what about woods are woods come in different lie angles as well or are they all the same.
l hate golf l start out hitting it straight then l develop a slice ruins the whole day
It sounds like golf hates you right back.
Depending on when in your round the slice starts to show up it could be a nutrition issue. There was a blog on the subject just over a week ago. As we get tired, a little change in our swings can have a huge impact on what the ball does. A millisecond late squaring the clubhead or not keeping the swing path on the right path and it's a slice.
Hey James, We all feel that way at times, golf is a love/hate relationship. That's part of what keeps us coming back. We hate the bad swing so much, because we know we can do better, in fact we have done better, maybe it was the last round, or last week, maybe it was even on the last hole, or the last swing. If we at one time or another had that near perfect shot, or a good hole, or maybe even a good total round. It's enough to keep us coming back. We know we “CAN” because we already have! Golf is a wonderfully frustrating game. Good luck.

My problem appears to be totally in my head!
When I take a practice swing I feel very loose and comfortable. I could take 2,3 or any number of practice swings and feel fine with each one of them.
I then address the ball and almost immediately on my back swing I feel uncomfortable and/or my head is telling me my hands are in the wrong position or some other such nonsense. As a result, I botch the swing!
When I am able to block out those demons ( maybe 20 – 25 % of the time ) I hit good shots!
What can I do? It is now so bad I am seriously considering giving up the game!
yeah steve, it's amazing how such a “small” thing like that can cause so many problems. I feel it's something that everyone should consider and pay close attention to. I often too get lazy allowing my wrists to roll back a bit instead of keeping them firm. practice with the sole intention of watching wrist position helps to keep it in check.
I've yet to meet a hole that I can't birdie … or triple bogey.
Trust your swing …. don't get overly concerned with the outcome, just know that you're going to hit it decently. If you let yourself get tense over the ball, you're setting yourself up for a bad outcome. It's one shot at a time … tension just adds to that total number at the end of the round. No matter how bad your round is I bet it beats a day in the office.
(Now if I could just do it consistently)
Mary, use your softball acumen and “step into the pitch”. If you want to
hit the ball over 2nd base you stride toward the pitcher. If you want to
“pull” the ball over 3rd base you lead with the shoulders more. If you want
to hit over 1st base the bat must be “late” at contact. In the golf world,
a slice can be caused by many things. If the ball starts left of the target
and then slices, it is usually due to the club path toward 3rd base with
the clubface open. If the ball starts straight toward the target(2nd base) and
then slices, it means the club path was toward the target but the face was
open (late). If the ball goes right of target and then slices, it means the
swing path was too “inside out” and a foul ball in the right field stands.
A good drill for you might be as you take a backswing, let your left foot touch
your back foot and then stride toward 2nd base as you swing the club toward the target. This will help you lead the golf swing more with the legs and less
with the shoulders as most slices are caused by the shoulders pulling the club
across the ball. Hope I didn't confuse you.
Parchaser
It all depends on where you add the speed with the hands. If you accelerate your hands through the ball (i.e. a good swing) then the face will stay open with a weak shaft. If, like most players who lack distance, the hands slow down through the ball the clubface will close and yes, then you'll hook it. But my point though was that yes, you want to match your clubshaft to your swing, but first get some lessons to learn a good swing.

Teepee or whatever he calls himself now, has deliberately baited you with stupidity – It worked

Others have not

I realise there's some history here but as a newcomer I find the double standards less than manly

Why remove his stupid comments & leave worse on the site?
Not a good look ladies

Hey Jack,
I certainly agree with you on the profanity thing. Maybe I am just too “old school” but remember Mom washing my mouth out with soap for saying things that seem to be almost unnoticed by today's standards. Tee Pee is just annoying and if one starts to reply without taking a minute the reply will get out of hand. If you've ever seen the movie Dances with Wolves Tee Pee is like the character Spivey, not substantial enough to take seriously, or a small dog barking at your heels you know that if you turn around it will run off with it's tail between it's legs.
What I notice now with the experience I've gained, just not in the ppgs style but scoring over all, If I can get up and down with minimal effort meaning practicing my short game more. I feel we need to start concentrating at the green, then work back to the tee blocks. As for the slice how many out there hit a draw at will with this new swing, I don't hit a draw at all and what I do; I align everything to the left side of the fairway and if I hit it straight I'm on the left side if I start later on in my round cutting the ball usally it is gradual, it really doesn't concern me to much, because if I can get close on par 4's and 5's and get up and down, even though I zig zagged that round I score well. I just try to get to the 150 marker on par 5's and the 120 yard area on par 4's that is my scoring yardage. One last thing if you par the 5's and 3's and bogy all the par 4's what does that leave you for a score on your course.
One last thing I try not to watch any one in my group swing it usally messes up your rythm.
Thanks for the reply Steve – decent of you to take the time –
I'm not offended by the language, it wasn't the issue
The double standard & lopsided moderation was – bad look
Difficult to see any high moral ground when 12 people agree with digging a hole for one fool – Cowards & the undisciplined need a mob
If a fool baits you & you take the bait, who is now the fool?
This may be my last post – I appreciate your input
Jack,
I hope you understand that my reply was the first. I was just trying to reach Tee Pee on some higher level and (maybe?) make him stop and think next time about how it feels at a personal level to be doing everything you can to try to achieve success and have people say disparaging things about you. I don't know if people like that can be reached but I thought I would give it a shot. I know several athletes who are currently or have in the past played in their sport at the professional level. People need to stop and think how hard this endeaver is.
I hope that wasn't your last post I enjoy reading your perspectives.
I recall reading that when playing with Ben Hogan, Sam Snead would never watch Hogan swing. Snead though Hogan's tempo would interfere with his own rhythm. However, this may work in the opposite direction. When Jack Nicklaus was still an amateur he played an exhibition with Snead. He recalled later that Snead's rhythm was so beautiful that he found himself swinging better. So, maybe it depends who you play with.

He recalled later that Snead's rhythm was so beautiful that he found himself swinging better. So, maybe it depends who you play with.
I rember reading that Gene Sarazen who played great golf into his late 80s was a strong believer in swinging a weighted club every day to build strength and flexibility.

Question Why do my 3,4,5,6 irons all go the same distance approx 140 yards & my 7,8,9 irons go about the same approx 100 yards. I had a 18 handicap and I am 79 years ols
Physics are the reason for your loss of distance. What I suggest is you go to a club fitter and have them match your swing speed to a shaft and loft that will maximize your launch angle and control your spin rate. Trying to increase your swing speed will lead to faulting swing habits. Check out my article on “Truth In Advertising” to view an optimal launch characteristics.
Surge, just had a great July 4 weekend playing PPGS swing and shot some very good scores. Averaged just over 73 strokes over three rounds at White Columns. Lowest score was 70 with bogies on the last two holes. I got the PPGS rolling. What fun, played 3 days in a row with no back problems. Thanks, Jim
While taking practice swings, you have no expectations or fears to get in the way of your mental or physical process/s, nor is there any concern with alignment or other factors to be considered. My own experience shows me that there are certain clubs, shots and conditions that I am comfortable with and others that I am not, therefore if I choose to try and hit a shot that I am not confident in (regardless of any practice swings), I believe the doubt in my mind will overshadow my confidence and I will not pull off the shot. The key is to play a shot you know you are capable of and then you will have the confidence to hit the ball like you know you are capable of, even if that means laying up on a hole that you know you are capable of reaching, for instance, there is a par 5 that I can reach in two, however, it is laden with trouble and requires a 185 yards of carry over a water hazard to a green that has trouble on all sides so I lay up with a nine iron and hit a wedge in and usually have a putt at birdie but when I have tried hittng the 185 yard carry shot, I usually end up with double or triple bogey. Remember that at all levels of the game, 60% of your score is within 100 yards of the green, so be sure to practice those shots as they can cause your score to go high.
I'm reinserting this post to see if it will be deleted again
Thanks for the reply Steve – decent of you to take the time –
I'm not offended by the language, it wasn't the issue
The double standard & lopsided moderation was – bad look
Difficult to see any high moral ground when 12 people agree with digging a hole for one fool – Cowards & the undisciplined need a mob
If a fool baits you & you take the bait, who is now the fool?
This may be my last post – I appreciate your input
I'm having a real problem with takeing too much of a divot with my irons. I have only tried the ppgs for a few months but i have played golf for 30 years and I would like to improve my game but it is still a hard game to get better at and it is very frustating . I shoot anywhere from 85 to 95 but at one time I was between 80 to 85 and I thought I would try your swing but I am not doing too well right now. HELP !!!!
question, In and out of golf last 8 yrs with lower back , right shoulder girdle problems. Took almost two years golf free to get me as strong and fit as i am now. Using peak swing to protect myself long term and getting good again, I am a 24 hcap lady with a much lower hcap in me. New body position and new swing clicking in except with big headed driver. Being funny thing all my golf, either straight and fall out of the sky too soon or not great. Went from high loft to low worked for a while. Changed to lower tee helped a bit.My other woods are 4 and 7. I use the 4 to drive at present. very accurate but shorter than when i hit it off the flat. The best drives i ever had was when i played off 45!, i know don't ask why they ever gave ladies such a horrible start, with a more traditional head, I was longer and straighter than I have been since. Before I buy yet another driver and get 50 different opinions do you think there are players who are better off with a small head, if they are still available?
I just came back from 2 days in Hilton Head with Greg MacDonnell (long game and short game clinics). What a great guy – a fabulous instructor and an even better host. My new swing is a work in progress but it's going in the right direction and when I do it properly – what a great feeling and no back problems after 2 full days.
Thanks Greg. Paul, Toronto, Canada
Don't give up…it's a natural and very common feeling among all of us that LOVE this game, even those who depend on it to pay the mortgage…LOL! It'll get better, just dial it back a little and use the info here to fix that slice. Turn that slice into a power fade like the pros.
So I got the 10 free lessons, and have been receiving the informative emails. I've not had a problem with distance, as I am usually the longest in my foursome. I usually shoot about an 84, sometimes much lower, seldom much higher. I hadn't played for a while, went to the driving range twice, and incorporated the things I have learned “for free” from your site. I am amazed at how much less I need to do to get the same result. I did the 3/4, toe in catchers mit, up the tree swing, and didn't loose any distance. it's time I “buy into” your program, and fill in the blanks. What I have found is that I now hit the ball straight. I use to hit a “controlled” draw, and sometimes a tragic hook. I would line up straight, and fire the ball out to the right, with a draw to the fairway. The problem I have now is lining up straight, and hitting it straight right, or at the stick, and occasionally pull straight left… but straight like I have never seen. Not sure if you can figure out how I can “trust” going at the stick, but I thank you for everything you have done for me so far, and look forward to lower scores and happier rounds. Shot an 85 first time out, if I can get rid of the straight right, I could have saved 6-7 strokes easily.
I had the same problem with my irons and still do accasionally but my problem is when I move my head in the back swing I hit the ground before the ball and create a divot.I can't tell you enough about moving your head.I have to slow down the back swing so I don't throw my self off balance.Keep the body centerd and life is good.
