Day 3: Golf Swing Posture

This text will be replaced

The major premise of my swing philosophy is:

“The set-up determines the motion … and the motion determines the result”.

Which is why any swing problem discussion requires looking at your set-up first.

And a major part of set-up is your posture!

Why?

Because when you adopt the correct posture, you swing with more ease… hit farther and with greater accuracy… and you get in sync with a more natural rhythm that will keep you playing for years to come without the aches, pains, and injuries that most golfers eventually suffer from.

Today, we’re going to tremendously improve your posture (and your entire game) by focusing on your shoulders and knees. In fact, when you get today’s lesson down, you’re going to absolutely amaze your golfing buddies as your scores start to plummet!

Now here’s the thing you really need to know:

The main culprit leading to poor posture is that over-used and faulty advice to “Be comfortable” or “Imagine you’re sitting on a barstool.”

These clichés are completely inaccurate and do nothing but cause problems.

I mean come on — you’re on a golf course!

“Comfortable” is sitting in a nice big, soft chair … or laying on a couch, or hammock. It means you’re relaxed… not ready. If you’re comfortable out here, then your muscles aren’t ready to perform a powerful golf swing. When you tell yourself to “get comfortable”, the tendency is to slouch your shoulders, and bend your knees far too much.

Instead you must be what I call “athletically” ready!

Like being in the batter’s box or waiting to receive a tennis serve.

Your muscles are primed and ready to spring into action.

You have to be ready!

And there you have it.

Tomorrow I’ll unveil lesson 4 which pertains to your stance.

If you haven’t checked out my PPGS HD Video Series, then make sure you sally forth over to “Swing Surgeon Central” and grab your copy now, while you still can.

For a limited time, you can use it for an entire YEAR without any risk.

Plus, if you don’t slash at LEAST 10 strokes from your game after using my swing, I’ll refund your money and let you keep everything as my “penalty” for wasting your time.

In other words, my swing MUST work for you… or it’s free.

How many high falutin’ club instructors are willing to make you that offer?

You can learn the same swing used by thousands of other Swing Surgeon superstars (including some PGA Pros, like my son D.J.) now at:

To your golfing success,

I am enjoying the lessons…but did not receive video-lesson 2.

  2. Marvin says:

    Don,

So far so good. I’ve looked at three of your video lessons and find them very interesting. The simplicity of your methods are great. Ihave played golf for more than 40 yrs. I’ve been as low as a +2 and continue to play to single digit but can honestly say your technics are on target and can help any golfer. The warm up technics are a winner.

  3. dontrahan says:

    Peter,

You can go to the main page and check FAQ section and info is there to retrieve missing lessons. You can also call customer service.

  4. golfer says:

this is so pathetic. this guy is just babbling what is obvious. Look people, stop wasting your time with these bogus lessons. go back to youtube and follow certain drills, repeat them and practice them at the driving range. don’t let someone like this scam you out of your money and try to talk about body mechanics and physics. I bet this guy never even took high school physics. what an idiot.

  5. Rodger says:

2008 marked a difficult time for me as my left knee began to hurt more. Finally after playing no more than one round per week through the summer, and scoring no better than the 90’s,, I had a knee replacement in November..
Played no golf until March 2009.
It was in that recovery period that I discovered three fundamentals: keep your hands and wrists firm; shorten the backswing to a comfortable position, and maintain your upper body position as you swing. In short, I discovered the method you are teaching for hitting it straighter and longer with the least amount of effort. I am driving with grreater accuracy, and better distance than my regular group. While my putting is costing me a lot of strokes per round, I’m hitting more greens in regulation and enjoying seeing my scores drop back into the 80’s. Looking forward to more of your tips.

  6. steve says:

I have recently resumed playing after a break of about six months. Even though I was playing very good golf before my break, i struggled to resume the same form. I had forgotten how i was gripping the club, hand tension & other basics that seem to come naturally when you play a lot. I found that your free video on hand placement & tension immediately had me hitting well again. I dont think that i will purchase the full video tuition, I have spent more than my fair share on these sorts of things in the past. As a golf addict , i love reading & watching videos about golf , in the hope i may be able to pick up small gems of information that will help my game, however , i feel further improvement for me now will depend on my ability to sort out my mental game.
To “THE GOLFER” who left his worthless comments here on september 4, You are an idiot, since when do you have to do any kind of study on physics to be able to understand & impart golfing principles. Take a survey of all the golfers on the USPGA tour & find out how many studied physics.
Stop the personal attacks, & get a life!!!!

  7. john hutchinson says:

after only 2 video lessons, today i shot under 100 for the first time in 3 months( 93). thanks don ,looking forward to rest of videos. what a difference the no wrist break made.2 pushes and 1 hook but no slices.thanks again

  8. Bill Baergren says:

I’m really enjoying your live lessons, Don. I’m not even a good “average” golfer but when I’m on the course I want to enjoy it–because it’s usually done in the nicest place in the neighbourhood, right?
This lesson balance makes sense to me. Keep it up. I’m listening.
    Bill

  9. Gary says:

I’m same as Peter. Did not receive lesson #2.

  10. don says:

Problem with the lesson 3 video. It goes to black midway through.

  11. Jim says:

Just went through lesson #3 and will begin practice later today. I have not received lessons 1 and 2 and wonder what other great info I am missing?

  12. chad says:

My shoots are more accurate, but my distance is lagging?

  13. Bob says:

    I did not receive lesson # 2

  14. dontrahan says:

    Bob,

There is a good chance you did not put the address in your address book and the video e-mail got caught in your spam blocker. You can also go the the FAQ section on the home page and there are instructions there on how to get it.

  15. Fletch says:

    Don,
I just recieved the third lesson and I already feel more comfortable swining the clubs. My 10 yr old son just started golfing and I want to help him not experience all the frustrations I have faced since I began golfing. Will your swing work for him or does he need to try something different.

    Thanks
    Fletch

  16. Anthony Monforte says:

It can’t be this simple. I used to play a lot of golf and always had a sore back after playing a round. Finally I gave up golf and have not swung a club for over 8 years. I saw something about your site on the internet and viewed your introductory video. Of course I thought that it was complete b. s., but still did signed up for the free videos. So far, I have received first three and viewed a couple of the video tips on your web site. Last night, I dusted off my clubs and went to the driving range and got a large bucket of balls and tried your 3/4 swing. Of course things weren’t an immediate success. Started with the pitching wedge and hit some fat, others thin, a few pulls and pushes. After a dozen or so balls, I hit a beauty about 110 yards and thought there may be something to this. I worked my way through the bag with continuing improvement. By the time I got to the 4 iron there were no more mishits, only long straight shots. Fairway woods were beauties and I think that the last drive that I crushed hasn’t come to rest yet. I’m looking forward to receiving the rest of the lessons and exploring more of your tips. Best of all, my back felt great and when I woke up this morning my back wasn’t stiff. Did I mention that I’m almost 64?
Keep up the good work and a big thank you.
    Anthony

  17. Lin says:

I am learning so much from you short narratives, it’s so much easier to follow than all of the other teaching methods I have tried. Thanks for making it easy to follow and understand!

  18. serge says:

your wrist action lesson has improved my striking immensely. all i do is rotate my wrists clockwise at the start of the swing, with no conscious body movement. i think this causes the club to move away as a door would when u open it: straight back and gradually inside. the left shoulder follows this turn. the hips dont move in probably the firs half of the swing, which creates more coil. at approximately waist high. i feel my arms going straight up as they pass waist height.at the top. my wrists have not cocked at all! i hardly reach parallel at the top of my swing now: i used to swing it 30 degrees past parallel before. with a useless wrist cock. i achieved this after hitting 60 balls at the range, using a 6 iron and a driver, with the same swing action. went onto play stroke and shot 78. playing off a 13 handicap on a par 72 course. with more of ur teachings, im sure ill get down to a 5 handicap or better.no sway . a three quarter turn, a shorter swing and straighter, longer shots! and somehow. as a result of all this: my usually bent left arm is straight without trying! thanks a lot “surge”!

I got lesson one and three, but not two. Could you resend it?

  21. Dennis Peek says:

I got lessons 1 and 3, Bbut didn’t get the 2nd one. having fun so far.

  22. Hello Don: You might find this interesting because I’m all fired up without putting any of your lessons to the test. About 11 years ago, I lost all feeling in my left little finger due to a bypass operation. Being a righty, you can imagine how tough it was to maintain a good grip. Your first lesson regarding grip pressure, i. e. equalizing pressure with both hands seemed to be THE answer to my problem. It makes so much sense to do this instead of concentrating so hard to squeeze harder with my left hand. In my mind’s eye this has to work.

I must confess that after playing this maddening game for the last 45 years, this business about not cocking the wrists seems all but impossible to achieve any kind of distance which I need at age 71. I already hit it pretty straight. However all this experimenting will come later. I just want to concentrate on the grip for now. I find your sample lessons to be as they should – short and sweet. Nobody can have more than one swing thought at a time.

  23. jeff says:

    Dear Don,
Just wanted to tell you what impact you have had on my life before I even got a chance to see the first lesson video. I met a man Tuesday on the practice green at my home course in Minster Ohio. I had noticed him walking to the the driving range with 2 bags of practice balls…..I thought to myself , ‘that this man is going to be tired after hitting 100 plus balls.’ While practicing my putting, I was astounded as I watched this man hit every ball straight and far with little effort. This man, I would guess, is in his early 60’s. I had not yet even spoken to the man, but I was astonished at how accurate he was with every swing. When he had finished hitting, he walked over to the putting green and I said to him, “That was some work out.” He responded …”yeah, I am practicing what I ‘ve been learning from Don Trahan”…….he then began telling me about what he had been learning by watching your free video lessons. He showed me the grip and the 3/4 swing. That was it….we did continue talking for the next 30 minutes as we practiced putting and we made a date to play golf Wednesday at 10 am. To make a long story short, I began doing what he had showed me with the grip and the 3/4 swing. I hit 5 of the 8 fairways on the front 9 and shot a 43…..I’m a 16 handicap and capable of shooting a better when I am in the zone. With every driver and iron shot, I put into practice what he had shown me and I was thrilled to see how I can play with more confidence and accuracy. I believe that I will get into the single digits with my handicap as I continue to learn and master what you teach. I received my 3rd lesson tonight……I will be playing on Sunday with the same gentleman and I can’t wait to see how well we both play. Thanks so much for making it so simple and fun to learn.

    Jeff

  24. dontrahan says:

    Jeff,

Great story. The best part is that your new friend was so kind as to share his knowledge with you. Golf is a great game but also can be a difficult one. Golfers know quickly when they have found something good and in most cases they will help me spread the message as you have with this blog to all our readers.

  25. Ryan says:

Before this summer I had not touched a golf club in over 2 years due to being to busy in the Marines. Now that I am home this summer I finally got back into it and was doing terrible. Coming close to 100 was good with me, and I was getting ready to say forget it. Saw your link and have only watched 3 of the videos. With the help of doing exactly what you have stated with ALOT of time at the range and on the course I shot an 88 yesterday which for me is outstanding. Thanks for your help and Im excited to see and hear what more you have to offer.

  26. Doug Hardenbrook says:

Just watched the second video, I am at least a triple bogey golfer. Today I went to the driving range and tried your method. I hit the ball straighter then ever with my woods and driver, which are my problem clubs. I haven’t gotten rid of my slice yet but am definetly hitting the ball straighter. I played nine holes after practice and shot the best score ever on this course. Will go a different course and try and beat my best score there.
    Thanks!!!

  27. Leslie says:

    Don,
I’ve enjoyed your videos, but must mention that although I’m sure you are demonstrating proper form, your cameraman is focused only on your upper body. In your third video, when you are attempting to show us the position of your hips and knees, your cameraman missed the boat!
Please consider this in future videos – as one gentleman suggested, people learn much from visual input.
    thanks!
    Leslie

  28. dontrahan says:

    Leslie,

I thought the videos were corrected where video inserts showing the full body to see the feet, legs and hips were added to those videos as I requested it the last time I was with our video team and asked them to do it. Obviously, it has not been done. I am meeting with them and my partner who oversees our video production this Friday morning to do some video taping. I will, I guess this time, more assertively ask them to get it done AFAP as this is important for proper presentation and understanding.

  29. Kenneth Hern says:

    Don,
I have now received and reviewed the first three lessons. The lessons have been clear and concise and much appreciated.

The other day a my usual foresome were all discussing what causes a “fat shot” and as you can imagine, there were four different thoughts.

Would you please give us some insight into what you think is the main cause for hitting “fat” shots.

As an aside, will one of the future lessons speak to such issues as “fat”hots, shanks, etc?

  30. Gerald says:

I have received lessons #2 & #3. I didn’t get lesson #1. Would you please send it to me. Thanks

  31. Roger says:

Have watched all three of the lessons to date. I think they have merit. PUHLEEZE take about 15 seconds with your cameraman to show exactly what you are saying by hitting a few balls.. also where is the ball in all of these lessons? Lined up where…in the middle? I don’t think so. Don’t just stand there and talk..hit it full frontal view so we can see the results of each lesson! The tips are great.. the execution, not as much! I’m 69 and a 3/4 swinger, maybe even 5/8. Play to a 10-16 hdcp. Have a tendency to hit my irons and fairway woods with a heavy divot. Any suggestions?

  32. jim rossi says:

I have watched 2 video lessons an went to my home course today and tried the new grip an 3/4 swing an got a par on the first hole a double bogey on the next hole , but got hole in one on the 3rd hole. A 152 yard 8 iron. It was the 4th hole in one I have recorded, still a thrill.

I stayed with it the entire round an shot a 95. Not very good for an 11 handicap. However I will try it again. I feel that it can take awhile to make changes, however I am playing in our member member tournement next week so I need to progress quickly.

    Thanks. Jim

  33. Timothy Huggins says:

I have not played golf in 18 years. My grandaughter, which is 10 yrs. old, and I cleaned out the shop about two weeks ago and she pulled out my old golf bag and clubs. She cleaned them up and started swinging the 7 iron and hitting the ball around. Then she asked if I would show her how to play. We went out to the back pasture and I showed her what I could remember. Stance, Lining up to the ball, and swinging the clubs. When we got back to the house she asked if I would take her to the golf rang and show her how to play. I told her we would see. After she went home I got to thinking If I don’t show her right It would ruin the game for her and she was so adamant about learning. So I went to the computer and found your PPG lessons and watched the DVDs and read the book Foundations. When she came back to visit today, I showed her the DVDs and we read threw the book. We then went to the nearest golf course and got her fitted with a set of clubs, then went and hit about four buckets of golf balls. She was hitting some good straight shot, just the first 9 hits sliced. I started out hitting golf balls like I was pitching a curve in baseball, then I hit a straight 250 yrd. I thought this really works. We went and played a round and she scored 125, which I told her that was alright, she needs work on her putting. I scored a 96, got in the sand trap once. I also need practice on my putting, too. But I do want to thank you very much you made a little girl love this game and helped to save me from humiliation. She is already talking about playing on her schools golf team. I started playing back in 1985, two good friends of mine that I worked with in St. Louise showed me how to play the game, but I never took lessons are was showed the correct way. I was shown some of the incorrect things like stop at the top of your back swing and keep your head down . Only one time I scored below a 100, now I know why. Again thanks to you and your son. I used his technique to get out of the sand trap. God bless, and we are looking forward to your next email lesson. Tim and Breanna.

  34. dontrahan says:

    Jimmy,

You can check the top of the home page in the FAQ section as there are instruction on how to retrieve missing videos. If that does not work, call customer service as they can help.

  35. Hugh Gallagher says:

    Hi,
The first lesson I put into practice and was hitting the ball solid.

I never received the second video.

    hugh

  36. mark mitter says:

    hey there,

i have watched the first 2 lessons and shot t day my first ever 84!! my hc is 45 and the people playin with me couldn t believe it!!
    soooooo sick!

    bless

  37. Ricardo says:

    Hey Don,
All I can say is “WOW”. I’m an athlete and a pretty good one at that. However, I’m new to the game of Golf. Only 3 months in and it’s doing something terrible to the old ego. I’ve been playing almost everyday since August 2nd when I went with some friends at some course down in Williamsburg, VA. I’m not going to sit here and say that I watch your videos and now I’m knocking my driver 300 yards or nothing ridiculous, but I do think I’m around 260. What I will say is that listening to your instructions are amazing. I’m a listener. I study what you say and apply it. Quick side bar, sorry about the idiot above calling you a scam artist. If I’m not mistaken, these email videos are free, correct? Ok, today I went out to my home course in Washington, DC and headed to the driving range. I’m not to bad with my driver off the tee but having problems with my short irons like 5 and up. But guess what, I’m still working at it. The lesson 3 video is right on point with Posture. I actually think this should have been lesson one. No matter what sport I’ve played it always starts with the proper posture. If you’re not balanced you can tackle, you can’t block, make a free throw, return a serve nor strike a golf ball.

  38. Jason says:

Really enjoyed the first three videos Don,your system seems to be more natural than what i was taught.Looking forward to trialling your system this weekend.

  39. Dwight Keller says:

Just turned 61 and primarily lack consistency in my game, have good distance and sometimes laser accuracy but will follow up with miss hits and just plain poor swings. I play casual golf with friends and family and my only practice is basically when I warm up before a round of play. Used to carry a solid 12 handicap but rarely break into the 70’s anymore. How I feel that day often determines how well I swing the club. So far I like the information I’m receiving (can’t get away from the basics) although I was not able to open lesson #2. Could you resend it to me. Thanks. Dwight Keller

  40. Raymond Head says:

Thanks for the great lessons… I found that just before I start my swing I seem to automatically “squat down” slightly… I am hitting the ball straight and long … the ball just springs off the club face like a rocket… when I want to fade the ball with your system… I just line up my feet where I want the ball to start, the face of the club where I want the ball to end up, grip the club in that position, as you teach… then swing my hands along the line of my feet… the ball starts left of my target, then falls off the right… it’s beautiful !!

    Thanks again Don…

  41. Mark Ulrich says:

    Hi Don,

I am liking your advice so far. Rain has kept me off the range this week so I cannot try out your advice yet. Was there supposed to be a video part of lesson 3? If so, could you please resend it. I did not get that part.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  42. Rob says:

tried lesson 1/2 in a game against my mates, It was a bit risky as i didn’t try on the driving range first my first drive went ok though reasonable distance into the wind fairly accurate but then thats not generally a prob for me, distance is my biggest problem my second shot 5 wood went pretty good too,so i was thinking this hand grip thing works ok so im telling my mates how good its working as i proceeded to skinny my lob wedge right over the green and into shit lol well they laughed!.however I do think the tighter grip makes a lot of sense, and although It didn’t improve my score that day I think my drives went just a little bit longer.

  43. Jeff C says:

Don, Can I get your thoughts about the start of the downswing? My “muscle memory” starts with a hip-slide, which actullay causes my hips/butt to move closer to the ball. This inturn causes me to drop my arms/club too far to the inside, reulting in draws/hooks and shanks. My divot pattern is always too far right of the target line.

  44. tony says:

I just listened to the 3rd. lesson and found that my posture was all wrong. I was leaning to much forward, and found I was bending my arms at the elbow.I looked like the hunchback of Notre Dame. Having said that should I be leaning forward with the weight on the ball of my feet or on my heels.

  45. pguralnick says:

    did not receive lesson 2
    please forward it
    most interesting

  46. ZIMMERN says:

Please send me the 2D lesson again, as it has disappeared from my computer..sorry my english is chaotic, as i am french..i love your lessons, i am 15 handicap and hope to improve, thanks to you.
    Sincerely
    Dany Zimmern

  47. ZIMMERN says:

What do you mean by ” not coked the wrists ” i can’t find the translation of the word coke is it ” casser ” in french ?
    Thanks for your explanation
    Dany Zimmern

  48. Jud Stone says:

So far so good..but, like a few others, I didn’t receive day 2 either…looking forward to the rest..

    Thanks,

  49. Dale says:

Don, I sent an email earlier today re: not getting the videos to work. I found out what I was doing wrong and have now watched the first three videos. I’m looking forward to getting out on the range. The grip video was of great interest because I have a tendency to pull on the range and push on the course. Thanks very much. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  50. bob says:

practice in the basement using the first 3 lessons looking forward to the spring (in may ) to put the lessons to use ..they all make sence ….bob ps some people will ill comemt aon any thing ….. bob

  51. Dr. Blair Labig, DC says:

I did not receive lesson 2 and lesson 3. I would like to see them.

  52. chris says:

Hi, first i would like to say thanks for the free videos. I am a hack golfer with a handicap of 23, After injuring myself a few years back i have had trouble finding a swing that dosnt hurt and also one that i can do consistently. Have recently started playing regular games again and have been having problems with ball striking, off the ground mainly and have a huge slice. Last game a freind told me i was reverse tilting and not being sure what he meant exactly i done a search and found your free videos, after watching them and a few balls out the back, for the first time in a long time i felt i was able to hit the ball from anywhere and almost pain free, i will wait to see how my slice goes at the course but am expecting to see a diiference.
    Thanks again,

Secondly i received an email about yours and dj’s swings, i was looking forward to watching them but unfortunaltely the link given dosnt work, would like to see them sometime, cheers

  53. Ray Dingman says:

I WAS TRYING TO VIEW LESSON 3 POSTURE BUT IT DOES NOT PLAY. WHAT CAN I DO?

    THANKS

    RAY

  54. Jim W says:

Don, I have enjoyed each of the first 3 lessons. Have been playing for almost 40 years and have lost a lot of distance due to painful feet and knee joints. I noticed both you and DJ are on your right toe at follow through. Is it a result of torso rotation or a hip rotation? Packed it in for the Winter but want to practice for a comeback against my golfing buddies. Thanks, Jim W

  55. Craig says:

    Don,
I received the email for lesson #3, but when the screen comes up all it does is “spin”, and never plays the video.

  56. Erdal Eren says:

just went out today and hit 35 balls using methods from first 2 lessons with great results from the first balls i struck straight down the middle to the last. The best session i have ever had at the range .Playing off a 15 handicap cant wait for my next round.I feel like i have much more power now.I could never hit my 2 iron before, but now i am hitting hit 200 meters on the fly thanks don these tips realy work.

  57. robert hutchison says:

Don. While watching the full swing video of you and D.J., i noticed that at the top of your swing, the upper part of your left arm, your bicep, covered your chin and part of your face. I can’t get my arm that high. Is my posture incorrect and is causing my swing to be too low? By the way, the view is looking down the line.

  58. Mike says:

I got my first and third lessons but never received my second one. What gives?

  59. Mark says:

The only thing more frustrating than golf is watching this video player spin and spin, but never play. What is the story? Thanks.

  60. Curt Piper says:

    Use this already…thanks for reinforcing!

  61. acemakr says:

I’m getting an error – video no found for lesson #3 – posture. Will check back on Monday.

  62. CHUCK says:

DON, YOUR INSTRUCTION SEEM INTERESTING , BUT HERE IN MICHIGAN IT’LL BE A LITTLE DIFFACULT TO PUT THEM INTO PRACTICENOW IN THE WINTER TIME. SO PLEASE DISCONTINUE SENDING ANY MORE E=MAILS. THANK YOU CHUCK

  63. logan says:

Well So far These video clips are nothing you cant read out of your typical Golf magazine over the last 50 years. You are very wrong with your advise on grip pressure. I can show you freeze frame footage of some of the top players in the world who at impact almost have their right hand barely touching the club!!! Left hand in the case of Phil. Fred couples…Vijay ect…very loose right grip. You cant begin to tell everyone how much better your three quarter swing is..are you serious look at the legends of this game…Ben Hogan..Bobby Jones..Payne Stewart..I could go on and on ..even Tiger is at PARALEL!! How about Phil…I’d say he is a ummm good golfer. DJ is a good glofer but seriously…just because your son has won on tour does not mean you have unlocked the secret of the golf swing!!! I realize its a good way to try to make a name for yourself..your swing is best suited for old men with no flexibility..Even Couples who has bad back pain still has the same swing he has had since High School…Cant argue with history…Swings going to Paralel are no less accurate than what you claim with a short swing..it all comes down to feel…practice…and raw talent!!!

Thanks for the 3 videos I have received so far from you Don. Great stuff as I cannot wait to see all 10 before investing by purchasing your dvds. Keep it coming and I am practing as you so easily demonstrate using common sense. I will be putting your tips into common practive at my club in Nudgee, Brisbane Australia this weekend after hitting some practice balls and will keep you informed on my development. My club handicap currently is 19.1. Glenn

  66. mitchell says:

these are great my handicap was 20 now it is 10 thanks so much
i love you your my hero

  67. eduardo pinson says:

great don. ur three videos works. i watched, applied, corrected, practiced, & saw improvements.

  68. Marjorie says:

I am perplexed about the third video on stance/posture. I have been working with a golf professional in my town and he has suggested something different. He has actually told me that I need to stand up a little more. I don’t feel bent way over, but I don’t feel that I am in “an athletic position” as you describe. Personally, this has helped me to shift my weight better, take the 3/4 swing without taking the club inside and out. When executed properly, the ball flys with little or no effort. Your videos about grip and not cocking your wrists are spot on. I wonder though, on the stance, is it different for women than men or is there a personal swing element that my golf pro sees that helps me to execute better?

  69. DG says:

    Don

I have just started playing golf. Infact I am joining a nearby club today. I got your first two lessons and it made a good difference to my shots. I have been going to the driving range and my shots were always swaying either to right or left but after watching your videos, I managed to hit straight yesterday. Will be watching the third lesson in a while and will go to the range to practise. Thanks

  70. Jack Torney says:

I do not have access to Video lesson #1. This is the second time I have asked, please provide.

  71. Lysle J Myers says:

    Hi Don

I’m in the south of England and at the moment we have the BIG FREEZE, course closed so I can’t practice what you’re saying but I can see the sense of it all. I’m looking forward to having a go. I have been playing golf a long time (since 1965) I’m now close to 69, playing off a 21 and climbing. I sure would love to shave some strokes off my handicap. Used to be a 7 up to the age of 52, bad hip came in and a lot of bad things happened to my swing as I tried to compensate. I’ve had the hip replaced after 9 years of hobling along and messing up my golf swing.
So thanks for your tips on the free videos, I’m on to lesson 4 and will study them all well whilst I wait for the course to open. I will keep you informed on how I get on.

Obviously I play with the men seniors and many struggle, once I’ve tested you theories I’ll share your web-site with them.

    Thanks again,

    Lysle

What a lot of comments,,, and that guy who says he is 67,, what a laugh,, I am 80, and I’ll bet anything I can beat him at golf,, or bowling,, I like lyour tips,, the only problem is: it is winter in Michigan, and there is a lot of snow on the ground,, Ha.
but I do have one suggestion: please,, after giving the vocal lesson,, have that young guy in the black shirt with the beautiful swing, demonstrate the lesson for us, tow or three times,, OK? BILL “THANKS”

  73. tom says:

wondering when you are talking about not cocking wrists ,how will you ever gain distance all golfers and baseball players are wristy going at the ball this where their power comes from/?

  74. ER says:

Problem with the lesson 3 video. It goes to black midway through.

  75. BOON WANNACHITH says:

  77. al marshall says:

i think it has a lot to do about your in sync an rhythm ,where you ,mind an body ,at the time which changes in play , but useing your teaching i can,t wait to try with my next round ,been a long time since being on the web, but play,in off ,on for yr,s have a good day

  78. neville says:

So far so good. I’ve looked at three of your video lessons and find them very interesting. The simplicity of your methods are great. Ihave played golf for more than 37 yrs. I’ve been as low as a 9 and continue to play but can honestly say your technics are on target and can help any golfer. But I am waiting to see if it will stop my out to in swing when you get to No 4 video

  79. Ron says:

While some of the explanations can be a bit confusing, I have been trying the more vertical swing plane along with the different setup and it seems to be helping me hit the ball straighter. I’ll take a bit shorter distance with a straighter line any day. For whatever reason, this new swing plane seems to help me transfer this improvement from the practice range to the course more easily.

  80. Dave says:

golf video for day 2 and for day 3 produce a message of video not found

  81. Opps! This 3rd video while important is much weaker than the first 2 videos. Don talks about posture promoting balance. Great!
What is missing however is the point that:

You should concentrate on MAINTAINING THE GOOD POSTURE THROUGHOUT THE SWING, and you should be mindful TO BE BALANCED THROUGHOUT THE SWING.

I would hope ‘Don might revise this video a bit to focus on keeping balanced at all times as a result of the good posture.

    Carl Sakofsky

  82. Opps, I just reread my last comment…what’s missing in my constructive criticism of Don’s 3rd video is that if Don just would point out the obvious if a golfer swings unbalanced he won’t get a consistant swing.

An inconsistant swing equates to unpredidtable shots which result in high number of strokes and bad golf!

So if you want to score low, STAY BALANCED !

    Carl Sakofsky

  83. gordon mundt says:

don………….Show more of what you’re teaching and not so much talk. Your lesson #3 had value, but it wasn’t specific on how it looks when you actually address a ball.

  84. Bob S says:

    Don,
Did not receive lesson #2.I went to FAQ and typed in my email address and it said it wasn’t found.
I REALLY need the putting advise as I could not even make 2 footers the other day.
    Thanks

  85. Bob S says:

    Don,
I now have you listed in my email address book, so could you please resend me lesson #2
    Thanks

I have a problem pulling inside on my irons. I line up on the hosel and hit the ball on the toe of my club.l HELP!!

  88. alec says:

Anybody who perseviers with your instruction will reap dividends-especially in the pain relief department.I speak as one who used to play four, sometimes five times per week with a flatish rounded swing to a good standard until arthritis set into my hips. This destroyed my ability and thus my enjoyment to play the game to the same standard.A while ago I was browsing through websites and found your instruction series and tried your swing teaching.Like many golfers who have played this wonderful game for for many yearsI dont think I will be investing any more money into it but I have to say that your method has given me a new lease of life. From not being to play the game at all because of the pain I am now playing twice per week with your method-great! Yes it is different to what I have been used to swingwise-most of the pros try to get you to swing flatter but I am now convinced that I have been swinging wrong ( flat ) for the last 30 years. The trouble is that all those years ago I probably would not have listened to your teachings.Thank you for setting me free from pain.

  89. BAZZA says:

cool i think i have my posture correct i always work on that before i tee off

  90. alan hensley says:

I need to better my swing,so i can hit the ball down the fairway better,i have a little slice to the right with my ball.

  91. Peter says:

as ofyesterday..I had only recieved 1 of your video’s. the 1 about the wrist cock. Tried it when I played yesterday. shot a 97 now that may not semm good to a lot of golfers but meant every thing to me, my usual game is about 110 so when you compare yesterdays score thats a massive improvment. when I think about the shots I missed through dodgey putting it could well have been a 90. is there a secret to good putting?
    many thanks

  92. Mary Riley says:

    Don,

I have tried your first two lessons and they work for me and getting ready to try your third lesson.

Went out and shot 1 under on 9 holes after adjusting my grip pressure. Keep the information coming.

It is perfect that we can get the personal loans and it opens completely new opportunities.

  94. Bob Whelan says:

We don’t need to see your face while you’re describing certain elements of the set up or swing ! we need to see your HANDS or the BODY POSITION that you’re describing, these parts which are out of the picture as you speak. We can hear you fine, but we don’t need to see your lips move to understand what you’re saying. Let’s SEE the hand formation and SET UP so we can
actually see what you’re talking about. Let your camera person follow your description in the frame.

  95. Walter Ostteen says:

am enjoying your free lessons. Have not been

Thanks for the great tip on posture, something I need a lot of work on. One of my many problems is that I tend to TOP my fairway wood shots..HELP!! Arnie
