The Top 10 “Amateur” Mistakes
Most PGA Tour Players Make
Without Even Realizing…
And How To Avoid Making The Same Amateurish
Mistakes That Are Keep You From Shooting Low Scores!
Enter your name and primary email below,
and PGA Master Professional Don Trahan
will show you these 10 golf swing “blunders”,
and how to start hitting the ball
longer, straighter and more consistently
on your very NEXT round…
Dear Fellow Golfer,
If you want to IMMEDIATELY have a more consistent, powerful and pain-free golf swing… and do it without taking a single lesson or spending one red cent… then the 10 free videos below will show you how.
Here’s the scoop:
My name is Don Trahan… although lot of people call me the “Swing Surgeon”. I’m a PGA Master Professional and personal coach to 2-time PGA Tour trophy winner DJ Trahan.
I recently decided to start to reveal the biggest, “score killing” mistakes I’ve seen in my over 25 years of playing golf and teaching PGA Tour Players and Professionals. So I put together 10 videos to help you avoid the same mistakes I’ve seen amateurs and professionals make over and over again…
Here is just a small “taste” of what’s in these free videos:
- The one thing you must never do (especially on the first hole) after a bad golf shot. (If you’ve ever had a frustrating day on the course this is probably why!)
- The “Big-Turn-Conspiracy”… A dirty little secret about ‘big turn’ swings your local PGA Pro does NOT want you to know. (Most golf teachers would be out of business if everyone knew the truth you’re about to learn.)
- Why the stance most PGA Pros teach is just flat out WRONG. (Hint: A wider stance will NOT give you more power. But this one tweak most certainly will.)
- The #1 WORST mistake you can make with your wrist when swinging a golf club. (Even if you do everything else “right”, your game will fall apart if you make this common mistake.)
- What to do with your eyes every single time you hit a golf ball. (Here’s a little known fact: Your eyes automatically show you an “optical illusion” on a golf course. And this is one of the main reasons most golfers have such terrible accuracy. Simply do this with your eyes next time you tee off, and watch your shots land exactly where you want them to.)
- Exactly how tight to hold your golf club for maximum distance. (Forget bogus advice about treating the club like an “open tube of toothpaste”. That’ll destroy your game. Hold it like this, instead.)
- A terrible technique (taught in all the golf magazines and videos) that almost guaranteed to injure your back. (And is one of the reasons why a shocking number of PGA Tour golfers spend so much time in surgery.)
- How to add up to 10 yards to your drives in your very NEXT round (even this afternoon!)… just by changing your grip.
- A simple way to “position” your arms to be virtually “Slice-Proof”. (If you slice a lot, this secret alone will change your life.)
- A.F.A.P.: How memorizing this acronym will almost force your shots to sail farther and straighter down the fairway. (I have to admit, this secret is a bit weird. But it works like crazy.)
- And much, much more.

Hello Don,
I have been reading your emails/blogs for awhile now and I appreciate the PPGS you teach. My questions is, my practise swings, driver to wedge feel and look good. However, when I step up to the ball and swing I have a totally different swing. Some people say say I am hitting at the ball rather than through it. My swing decelerates to the ball vs accelerates in my practise swing. Is it a mental block? Do I have the Charles Barkley fear to hit a golf ball? How can the PPGS help me with my swing when I hit the golf ball? Also, when I hit the ball I never get to a complete finish position like in my practise swings.
Help me PPGS!
Would like to learn how to swing consistently in order to make solid contact everytime…
Would like to learn how to chip and putt….
Would like to better understand how to read greens….get out of bunkers….etc., etc.,
many pros have tried all have failed the trouble is that they all try to make my body do stuff that is impossible
I can hit the 100 yd driving range flag 9 out of 10 times, but go to the course I can’t even hit the green from 100 yds out.
What can I do?
the slice…………..??? how to get rid of it once and for all
Let me begin by stating right up top that I fully understand that you a a golf teacher and not a medical doctor. Thus, I am not asking for medical advice per se.I love golf and at one time in my life was quite good. I take no credit for any athletic prowess I may have once possessed (baseball, hockey et al – except lots of practice) But now at 46 years of age, I am very injured. I broke my back in four places, hurt both shoulders (rotators/labrums), broke my ribs, my lower back isn’t doing too well either and my”core” has become very weak too. Why would I even consider trying to swing a golf club again? Because I love it, I miss it (and many other sports as well) I think it’s the “game of life” and I guess I’m just plain stupid I suppose. BUT I have seen footage of a man who is in a wheel chair for the rest of his life but somehow not only still plays, but he goes around the world giving incredibly inspirational demos. So maybe there is hope for me too. Most of my “medical friends” and friends in general think I’m just fooling myself and setting myself up for disappointment to even think about setting such “lofty” goals. I just miss participating so much. What do you think? And if you think I can get back in to “the game” over time, what do you think the best way to approach it might be? Thanks for reading this tomb from The Kingdom. Greg
I am an avid golfer, but haven’t played since I became a left leg amputee 4 years ago. Would your video help me?
How can I drive constantly straight?
Sounds interesting. I’ve just had two back operations but want to play better golf.
I have been working on many of the elements of the Hogan golf swing. I am interested in your opinionon of this swing and how your method differs from it and how it is alike.
would loike to have a better swing so I can hit the ball farther
Hello Don,
I found this comment on your blog… and I couldn’t describe better my problem… my Pro Teacher already filmed my practice swing… and it really looks pro!!! The problem is when I try to do the same with the ball there… my mind blocks…

Help me too Don?
The issues Joao refers to above completely echoes my feelings about how I approach golf. I have e respectable 11 handicap (got to 5 when I was younger). Endeavour would be my strong point. My ball position could be my biggest problem. Setting up and practice swinging in my kithcen. everything is great especially the ball position. Put me on the course and the whole thing changes, but I still play reasonably well. I would like to develope a better set-up with respect to the ball position. I think that is my greatest failing, never mind my fast swing.
I was just wondering if this page was real or not, I am Ballis! hello! hello! are there anybody there….
I think its real!!
NIIICE! have a BAIS……
I need some help
having trouble with my fairway 3 wood
mixed up between stack and tilt and just the comventional way.
show me the difference between the angles used on drivers and irons
Don,
I just played after watching the videos I downloaded and was very pleased with my iron play but swinging in much more of an upright swing than what I used for 40 years was a bit difficult on the longer swings. Off the tee and from the fairway I had a tendency to hit the ball on the toe of the club resulting in a slice which is something I never do. Can you tell me what I may be doing? I know I will need to get back on the range and get more used to the swing and I’m excited about the changes I am making. Thank you.
John
Of course I’ve got the slice and like to go left. Sometimes it’s a mystery what is going to happen when I swing a club. I do have top problem and hitting behind the ball. I will say when I hit the ball as I should it’s a sight to behold. Can be impressive.
Interested in more information. Sounds interesting as I need help with my
swing mechanics at 57 years old.

Hello Don,
I am unable to access the site in your Email of today where you offer some videos showing you and DJ swinging every club. Please advise.
I have really profitted from your videos and now keeping the ball normally on the short grass. Our golf Season just closed for wintry weather but I really look forward to getiing back to golf and the PFGS in the Spring. Many thanks.
Hi Surge,

I have a small problem that I work on an Offshore Platform and cannot download the vids, can you email them to me so that i can get them when i get home on the 17th Dec. I have been studying your techniques and have so far lost 7 shots ( for 9 holes ) and am pleased as punch with my game and the way it is improving. I just don’t want to miss out on any of your valuable tips and techniques.
Thanks in advance.

Thanx

What information do you have about squaring the irons at address and impact?
I have just started to play golf i want some information so that i can at least have striaght shots.
I am a twenty handicapper and want to get better
Need help …My swing decelerates to the ball vs accelerates though the ball. Is it a mental block Also, when I hit the ball I never get to a complete finish position like in my practise swings. How can the PPGS help me with my swing .
Michael,
You are likely hitting down or at the ball instead of swinging up to the T – Finish as you likely do in your practice swing.
You also need to check you alignment as aiming right (for right hander) will have the body in the way swinging the arms to the target and thus you can’t get through the ball and up to the finish.
Don
tedn to duck hook and pull shots was once a 5hdc now a 15
Wide stance not correct ? I am 78 yrs young and have been using Moe’s swing for years.I’ll stick with that.

to Mark Serno:
I am NOT an amputee — but I do have a weak left ankle that gives a similar result.
My experience with the PPGS swing system is that it definitely helps — specially if you have a weak back or weak leg/balance issues.
to Greg Kayser:
In my experience with PPGS, I would say YES it will help you — but it sounds like you need some Physical therapy work also. But for those of us with weak core and/or weak legs the PPGS is the ONLY way to swing and play.
GOOD GOLFING to ALL

i want to learn some of your points and how i can hit and drive a long ball
Thanks
I have ben playing golf for 46 years. For 23 of them I was in single figures. Now I cnnot hit a second shot at all, my mind is so full of doubt. Yet I go to the practice range and hit ball after ball straight. Stupid thing is, I can drill a ball off the tee for about 230 yds,(not much I know but I am 81 years old). Then when I walk up to the ball sitting in the middle of the fairway, I just cannot hit it properly at all. How can I overcome this blasted inability to hit that second shot or third shot?
If you can cure that my friend, I will pay for the lessons, as I am sure, as a Yorkshireman, there is a catch to this somewhere. I do not wish to be dissrespectful, but nobody does anything for nothing these days.
Regards
Terry
I want to improve my game and I am interested in learning more about he game
use to be a 5 now I’m a 10 because of progressive inconsistancy, and not plying as much anymore
To Mark Serna,
Amos, excellent advice you extended to Mark, Amos
Mark, I would also like to add that you go directly to Don’s post on this site entltled “Words from Warren.” The talk there is about the great all-time instructor Ernest Jones who advocates a great all-time swing methodolgy. Incidentally, Ernest lost one of his legs in WWI.

Surge,
On the 3/4 verticle swing, does that apply to all woods and Irons, specifically the Driver?
Happy Holidays,
Jim
How does one stop a ‘tight grip’?
What is the easiest on the course way to correct shanking.
How does one get some consistency ?
Am to persue a degree in Marine Technology.and just come across your materials covering the areas I require .
Please I have appreciated the way you have summarised the entire materials topic by topic.
Thank you very much.
Leo
I have appreciated the practical demonstartion of scientific applications you have exhibited.
Thank you
Leo
Jim,
The ball doesn’t know which club you’re using. The answer is YES.
Look forward to any ideas to help me get back to better golf after my shoulder repair.
iI have never hit the ball long, but am very straight – what can you do for me to increase my distance and satisfaction
I find that trying to use the “proper method” gives me a high level of inconsistancy, the cocking of the wrist at the peak of my back swing really puts my swing off.
I am a Left Handed Golfer.

I will soon turn 62, about years ago my handicap was around 6, now it has came up to 10. My problem is that I can’t get much distance off the tee. I have thought about training to increase the club head speed. What do you think.

Hi Don”
I`ve been playing for less than two years but play on the level of the players I play with that have been playing for eight years to fifteen years. I’m sixty seven years old come April and most that I play with are a lot younger. “BUT” I make a lot of mistakes and I know I can play better if
I could get,or aford some instructions from experinced golfers.
My drive is only an average of 225 yds. give or take. Sometimes I drive the ball neer 300 yds.
but I dont what I done to do that. I,m right handed and wheen I hit long I have pulled the ball left.
Also I hit a lot of big hooks with my irons when I dont wont to. I NEED HELP.

Don,
Have been playing for about six years. I am 56 years old. A good athlete, ex minor ballplayer but golf I am not very good. Low score of 90 but shoot mostly 98 to 105.
Not long drive maybe 210-220. Not very consistent in any part of the game.
Have taken many lessons.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Tom Johnson

I’m an 83 year old left hander and want to start playing golf again after laying off golf for several years. Robert Bruce
I,m looking forward to seeing what Don is offering.
I changed computers over the Holidays and missed several of your free / 10 lessons. Can you resend them to me? Thank you.
I’m a lefty, with a slow delibrate take away. I’ve found through video that I follow the club back with my eyes, and at the top of my back swing, my right arm folds or breaks down. This was happening and I was totally unaware! No following the club or arm break down during practice swings, or in the mirror. But as soon as I address a ball and go live to hit, all the these hings happen without me knowing it’s going on! Man, I need some help… not a gimmick…. Don, how can I eliminate this?
I’m 67, been playing for 23 years and have never broken 90. We’ll see what you can do!
I am a senior and recently had knee replacement for my right knee. Also, I’ve been through a period of layoff. I’d like to get back to a 10 or 12 again.

sidehill lie where ball is above feet
I have a slice that just won’t go away, plus inconsistant ball striking. I can’t seem to maintain the same rhythm all the time.
Don, Love the videos. Key points are covered which makes it easy to remember. I seem to have missed Video Lesson #5. Is it possible to resend it to me. I have a feeling from reading the summary above that it may have been something to do with the eyes. Would appreciate a retransmission if possible. Thanks. Barry
My 85th Birthday today! Jan 7.As a late starter — 60, I have to score 85, no ifs,butts. I am straight but lack distance——5.5 140 lb.
Cant seem to stay consistant, if play 2 days in a row, sometimes shoot low to mid 80s, next day could shooy mid to high 90s ??? Feel the same both days. or visa versa, play bad 1st day and great the next. Have taken many lessons, been playing since 16 now 42. The winter puts a damper on my game, live in Boston.
Tee Box Problems, no consistency hitting driver…
I did not see any comments from any women.
