		<description>Don,
Golf Clubs and Tennis Raquets etc have changed greatly in recent years compared to what players used many decades ago.

Tennis Raquets were made of solid Wood in the early years - which had nothing like the power that modern Tennis Raquets have..

For a long time improvements were not of much interest to manufacturers.

I suspect that Club manufacturers simply made Clubs the same length for their own convenience and put over the story that one size fits all players

But for someone like Jessie Valentine who though only 5ft 2ins won Scottish, British and French Championships , she either had special clubs made or she held the clubs half way down the grip. Either that or she had very wide golf swings
This is why it is perhaps questionable that cutting one inch off the length of a club should make much difference ( except in the psychological sense) but once again - I know little about Golf and am open to be corrected.

		<description>John,

That may be true in general, but I know for a fact that I am out of the majority as I have extremely long arms with a 35 inch sleeve and I am only 5&#039;9&quot; and maybe 8&quot; now and my son DJ who is 6&#039;3&quot; has the same 35 inch sleeve and he is at least 6 inches taller than me. DJ plays irons +1 inch and I -pay -1 inch. You also have to remember that bodies also come in longer than normal as do legs so a man or woman can have a long torso and short legs and vice versa and all these differences can change length needs and if not length certainly lie angle. So Standard is the place to start, and see where every individual falls in relation to standard as to needing it or adjustments.

		<description>Jim
Something you may not know - so test it out for yourself; the vast majority of men, regardless of height, have hands that are exactly the same height from the ground. There are of course exceptions but for the most part that is true. That is why I suppose there are standard size clubs.
Try it out.

		<description>Don,

In the middle of the last century Peter Thomson (later to be several times British open champion) went around a top Australian course in 64 .
He was 17 at the time.
Imagine what he would have gone around in - using your techniques !

I am not being critical - you might be right.

But I can&#039;t quite see how a tall player say six feet four can have the same required hitting stance as a player who might be five feet four - using basically the same clubs.

Obviously the tall player must bend over more when hitting the ball.

It might be appropriate for a tall player to have MUCH longer clubs so that he can be more erect when hitting the ball.

you see Tennis and squash players can all get away with the same sized racquets -because the racquets are just an extension of their arms so to speak, but a tall man using the same length clubs as a smaller man seems a bit odd.
hey, but I know nothing about Golf .

As someone once noted - it is often a good way to ruin a nice stroll in the Park ha ha

Yet all the walking is good exercise and has almost certainly added years to the lifespans of many golfers.

As old Hank Williams used to say after his Bands performances, We&#039;ll be back soon - the good lord willing and if the creeks don&#039;t rise ...
And if my circumstances change a little - I might start swinging a golf club again trying some of your ideas.
In the meantime I&#039;l settle for Squash.
It is a fast indoor sport and the weather outside does not matter
But its a sport where strategy and guile can see an older man often beat players half his age .
When you are in my kind of physical condition, then beating players one third my age is always an option ha ha.
just for laughs - see my website and photos at www.jimbernard.org
